Valuing Independence is the first care provider to provide a two tier system of care. It has a transitional set up for people to access. Being able to asses peoples needs and skills for future placement within the supported living service. The companies' ideation and creation was built by Kelly Popplestone in 2006.
It was set up on the premise that all persons within it shall be honoured with choice dignity and respect. To work towards individuality and independence. And most of all for the people supported to be listened to acknowledging their wants and needs, input, feelings, emotions, friendship and compassion without sympathy or ignorance.
Valuing independence has two directors, kelly popplestone clinical practice director and Louise stokes team general manager and director. The two directors make up the senior management team. The team also consists of a Child and Young Person Co-ordinator, where we are extending our services for children and young people.
Kelly Popplestone Dip He RNLD
Kelly is a qualified Learning Disability Nurse and has had continued employment in care since 1995. Kelly's varied experience has been in numerous settings within, the NHS community health PPCT, Private and Charitable, Voluntary organisations, HMS Prison Services. Having covered many care settings Kelly has experienced many people with varied conditions, Learning Disabilities: mild, moderate, severe and nursing care, Physical Disabilities, Mental Health, Self Injuring/Abusive behaviour, Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Sexual Deviance, Challenging Behaviour, emotional and behavioural difficulties, Forensic, Acquired brain injury and Child respite services for children with learning disabilities. Kelly is responsible for the team function and clinical and practice co-ordination.
Louise Stokes
Louise has been working in the care profession since 1995. Her experiences range from large residential homes, day services to individual supported living schemes. These were private charitable and social service settings. Louise has gained valuable experiences and training throughout her career, which include
mental health, forensic, physical disabilities, self injuring and abusive behaviours, sexual deviance, .....and challenging behaviour, brain injury, self harming. Emotional and behavioural difficulties and child behaviour services.
her roles have been managerial, social intervention/integration, and team managing, louise is currently responsible for the social health care of everyone support, manages the supported living and outreach services along with company organisational issues.
Valuing Independence offers many other aspects to its service in maintaining a high quality, person centred package of care and support.
TRAINING 
In maintaining a high quality care all staff are given internal and external training in core and mandatory courses with regular updates. Valuing Independence recognises the potential of support persons and the value of offering continued professional development, therefore, offers NVQ's, LDAF, levels 2-4 and in some situations will offer support in pursuing certificate and diploma qualifications (areas of relevance to the organisation). Continued support and development is provided through various support networks of 1:1 supervision, team meetings, and a 24/7 on-call system to discuss any concerns, complications, complaints and compliments of day to day work and situations.
FORUMS
To assist in supporting not only the person within Valuing Independence but also others involved in supporting a person living in their community, we also provide several forums, held on a quarterly basis. These include a Supported Person forum, Family and Carers forum and Support Staff with invited professionals forum, all of which can be accessed by the relevant person to the group for continued support, discussion and feedback to the service and each other, which is lead by you and supported by one of our management or coordination team. This enables us to maintain our person centred approach and provide the best quality care and support provision.
CHILD & YOUNG PERSONS SERVICES
we are looking to encompass children and young adults into our services to increase independence at an earlier age and bring respite and support to families who may need a well earned and deserved break or support in most daily living, behavioural, changes and adjustments for the future for the family and child(ren) young person. there is a specific Child and Young Person Co-ordinator who manages a team or qualified support people who will be individually matched to each young person or child, professionally qualified nursing/clinician involvement and professionally experienced social care management assure this unique and holistic approach.
